Wireless Sensor Network for Public Security - INAC Internship
at INAC - Internship in Chennai, INDIA
Wireless Sensor Network for Public Security Position:
The internship will be performed with our research team and in collaboration with Public Security team. The latter investigates technical technologies addressing Public Security related problematic.
WASP (Wirelessly Accessible Sensor Populations) aims narrowing this mismatch between application level and the node and network level by covering the whole range from basic hardware, sensors, processor, communication, through the packaging of the nodes, the organization of the nodes, towards the information distribution and a selection of applications. The emphasis in the project lies in the self-organization and the services, which connect the application to the sensor network. One of the main tasks in the WASP project is secure integration of WSNs into enterprise systems via design of the adequate services, protocols, mechanisms, and programming paradigms. Sensor networks appear to be the next hypetechnology of the 21st century. Empowered with short wireless communication capabilities, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) leverage traditional sensor networks by enabling randomly and densely deployment of smart and small devices in physical areas (e.g. battle field, body). We understand WSN as any self-organised wireless network involving low-cost and low-power sensor devices which are capable for sensing, processing, routing and disseminating data toward special sensor nodes so-called sink.
The goal of the internship is to develop a prototype for the integration of WSN into a public security scenario. To that effect, the internship will include the following tasks:
1. Security analysis of the scenario.
2. Design and modelling of a public security scenario including a WSN, according to the security requirements.
3. Implementation of the prototype.
The candidate is furthermore expected to participate actively in the team work with ideas and to contribute accordingly to the project, at each phase of his internship.
Qualifications:
The position requires a strong interest in Wireless security issues and how they relate to real time scenario. The ideal candidate will have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills; proven organizational skills; attention to detail; ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously; and strong computer (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet) skills.
Application Deadlines:
Applications are processed on a continuous basis, so apply early as positions.
- Summer Semester (May through August) April 1
- Fall Semester (September through December) August 1
- Spring Semester (January through April) December 1
